Cart Bump help

Cart Bump · Checked against the app on 9 October 2026

Cart Bump puts a one-tap add-on offer on your cart page: "Add gift wrap?", "Add a spare charger?", "Add shipping protection?". Shoppers tap Add to order and the item joins their cart without leaving the page. The offer hides itself once that product is in the cart.

Everything runs inside your theme as a block on the cart page. There is no dashboard to learn.

Setup (about three minutes)

  1. Install Cart Bump from the Shopify App Store. You land on a short welcome page.
  2. Click Open theme editor. It opens your Cart page with the Cart Bump block ready to add. (Or go to Online Store > Themes, click Customize or Edit theme, whichever your admin shows, switch the page selector at the top to Cart, click Add block (or Add section) > Apps > Cart Bump.)
  3. Under Bump products, choose the product to offer.
  4. Write your Offer title under Bump 1, for example "Add gift wrap for $4?".
  5. Drag the block to where you want it (just above the checkout button works well) and click Save.

To preview it, add any product to your cart first. Cart Bump never shows on an empty cart, because there is no order to add to. In the editor an empty cart shows a short reminder instead.

To change plan, open Apps > Cart Bump in your Shopify admin and click Choose or change plan. Shopify handles the billing; you never need to contact us or reinstall. After an upgrade, the theme editor confirms Pro under your offer straight away. Your storefront can take up to a few hours to follow, because Shopify caches app data.

Settings marked with a lock (🔒) only take effect on Pro. On Free they are ignored, so filling them in does no harm.

Bump products

Pick up to three products. The first is Bump 1, the second Bump 2 (Pro), the third Bump 3 (Pro). If a product has several variants, Cart Bump offers its first available variant. To offer a specific variant (for example a size), make it the first variant on that product, or create a separate add-on product.

An offer is skipped automatically when:

FAQ

Does Cart Bump show in the slide-out cart drawer?

No. Cart Bump is a block for the cart page. If your theme opens a drawer, shoppers usually reach the cart page through its View cart link. If you want every shopper to see the offer, many themes let you change the cart type to Page under Theme settings > Cart.

Does it show at checkout?

No. Checkout is run by Shopify, outside your theme. Cart Bump works on the cart page, the last step before checkout.

Does it change prices or apply discounts?

No. Cart Bump adds the product at its normal price. To discount the add-on, create an automatic discount in Shopify for that product.

Does it work with subscription or bundle products?

Cart Bump adds the variant as a one-time purchase. Products that can only be bought on a subscription will not add.

Which themes are supported?

Online Store 2.0 themes, which includes Dawn and every theme in the Shopify Theme Store today. The cart page must use a JSON template (all 2.0 themes do). Older vintage themes cannot take app blocks.

Does it slow my store down?

Cart Bump only loads on the cart page, and only when an offer is showing. It adds one small stylesheet and one small script from Shopify's servers. The storefront makes no calls to our server.

What data does Cart Bump collect?

None about shoppers. Adding an offer is a normal add to cart handled by Shopify. Privacy policy: https://digitalcartel.online/privacy/cart-bump.html

Can I see how many bumps were added?

Bumped items are ordinary line items, so they show in your Shopify orders and sales reports. In Analytics > Reports, filter sales by the add-on product. Items added through an offer also carry a hidden line item property, _cart_bump, on the order, which tells them apart from the same product added the normal way.

Troubleshooting

I added the block but see nothing.

  1. Add a product to your cart. Cart Bump never shows on an empty cart.
  2. Check the bump product is not already in the cart, and is in stock. In the editor a hidden offer shows the same "Pick a product for Bump 1" reminder as an empty one, so check this even if you have picked a product.
  3. Check you are previewing the Cart page template.
  4. On Free, only Bump 1 shows. Bumps 2 and 3 need Pro.
  5. On Pro, check the rules: a start date in the future, an end date in the past, or a cart total outside your min and max will hide the offer.

I can't find Cart Bump under Add block.

Switch the theme editor to the Cart page first; the block is only offered there. If you still do not see it, your theme may be a vintage theme without app block support.

I tap Add to order and the cart does not update.

Set After adding to Reload the page and save. Some themes build their cart page in a way Cart Bump cannot refresh in place; a reload always shows the right cart.

A message under the offer says "Could not add this item. Please try again."

Shopify refused the add, usually because the product sold out a moment ago, has a purchase limit, or is not available in the shopper's market. Check the product's inventory and its availability under Markets.

My Pro rules are ignored.

Check your plan under Apps > Cart Bump. A plan change can take up to a few hours to reach the storefront. Check the rule product handle matches the product URL exactly (a rule with an empty handle is skipped, so the offer always shows), and dates use the YYYY-MM-DD format (for example 2026-11-20). Anything else in a date box is ignored.

The offer looks out of place in my theme.

Try Layout: Row, match Button color to your theme's button, and set Corner radius to match your theme's buttons (0 for square themes).

Uninstalling

  1. Go to Settings > Apps and sales channels, find Cart Bump and click Uninstall.
  2. The block disappears from your cart page. Cart Bump never edits your theme files, so nothing is left behind.
  3. Uninstalling cancels a Pro subscription automatically. Shopify handles any proration.

Products that were added through Cart Bump stay on past orders as normal line items.
