Introduction

This Privacy Policy describes how Digital Cartel ("we", "us", or "our") handles information in connection with the Age Verification Popup app ("the App") for Shopify.

Information We Collect

The Age Verification Popup does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data to our servers.

The App operates entirely as a Shopify Theme App Extension. All configuration settings are stored within your Shopify theme settings. We have no backend servers, no databases, and no analytics infrastructure.

Cookies

The App uses a single browser cookie to remember whether a visitor has already verified their age. This cookie:

• Is stored only in the visitor's browser (client-side)
• Contains only a simple verification status flag (no personal data)
• Has a configurable expiration period (set by you in the theme customizer)
• Is not transmitted to Digital Cartel or any third party
• Is automatically removed when the configured period expires or when the visitor clears their cookies

No date of birth, name, or other personal information is stored in the cookie — only the verification status.

Data Storage

Your app configuration (verification mode, styling, cookie duration, minimum age) is stored in your Shopify theme's settings data, managed entirely by Shopify. We do not have access to this data outside of the Shopify admin interface. When you uninstall the App, all associated configuration data is removed automatically by Shopify.

Date of Birth Information

When using the Date of Birth verification mode, the visitor enters their date of birth to verify their age. This information:

• Is processed entirely in the visitor's browser (client-side JavaScript)
• Is used only to calculate whether the visitor meets the minimum age requirement
• Is never stored, transmitted, or logged anywhere
• Is discarded immediately after the age calculation is performed

Third-Party Services

The App does not integrate with or send data to any third-party services. It operates exclusively within the Shopify ecosystem.

Data Sharing

We do not sell, trade, or otherwise transfer any information to third parties. Since we collect no personal data, there is no data to share.

Children's Privacy

The App is an age verification tool designed to restrict access to age-appropriate content. It does not target or knowingly collect information from children.

GDPR & CCPA Compliance

Since the App does not collect or process personal data on our servers, it has minimal GDPR and CCPA implications. The client-side cookie used for verification status is a functional cookie essential for the app's operation.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date.
